Communities of Practice in Health & Agriculture

We believe that complex global challenges cannot be solved through funding alone. By bringing together funders, foundations, impact investors, and ecosystem partners, our Communities of Practice create spaces for shared learning, collaboration, and collective action. Through knowledge exchange, partnership building, and co-investment opportunities, we help strengthen the ecosystems that enable innovative solutions in health and agriculture to scale their impact and reach the communities that need them most.

Community of Practice in Health

Since 2022, the Community of Practice in Health has brought together funders and investors across the full continuum of capital to tackle a core barrier to healthcare innovation in low- and middle-income countries: fragmented capital. Its goal is to make collaboration frictionless through shared pipeline, coordinated due diligence and joint funding, so that capital reaches promising health ventures faster and helps them scale.

The community has grown to 27 members, including Bayer Foundation, Philips Foundation, Boehringer Ingelheim Social Engagement Fund, We Share Forward Foundation and the World Diabetes Foundation. Members invest from pre-seed to Series A across Africa, Latin America and Asia-Pacific.

Members have already earmarked more than EUR 300 million for health investments from 2027 to 2031, a figure reported by around 40% of the community and growing as reporting completes.

One realized example is iKure in India, a community-based primary healthcare platform. You can read more about the project below.

We're building an ecosystem of social innovation enthusiasts.

East Africa Agri-Food Co-Funding Alliance

The Alliance is a practical deal-making mechanism for East African agri-food businesses that are stuck between early support and scalable investment. Seasonality, long working-capital cycles and commodity risk mean conventional venture equity or bank lending rarely fits these companies.

The Alliance brings catalytic and commercial capital, risk-sharing tools, technical assistance and market access together around live financing gaps, so that credible deals reach financing decisions no single partner could unlock alone. It is being built with a founding group that includes Bayer Foundation, We Share Forward Foundation, AVPA, Mercy Corps AgriFin, Briter, Nordic Impact Funds, Unconventional Capital and IFC.

In its first phase, launching in Nairobi in October 2026, the Alliance aims to take three to five priority transactions of USD 250k to USD 10 million each through to a financing decision. These are supported by a EUR 300k Bayer Foundation matching facility designed to crowd in, not replace, investment capital.
